Draw Undo does not allow EDIT mode

Hi there, guys. I’m sure you might find this quite elementary, but I’ve more than once run into this issue and then has no way to step back but INITIALIZING the ZB interface.

  1. Draw with a tool.
  2. Accidentally draw a second instance of the tool. (because I did not go into EDIT mode)
  3. Hit undo.
The second instance of the tool disappears. But there’s no way I can select EDIT mode to model on the first instance that was drawn in the canvas.

Immediate Question: How do I solve this?
Long Term Philosophical Question: What’s the purpose of being able to stamp multiple instances of the same tool? Why would you ever want to do that?

Thanks, guys.

Hit ctrl-n, redraw the tool and then enter edit mode. I had the same problem when I first started using Zbrush.

When a tool is dropped to the document, it’s no longer a 3d model. Instead its just a bunch of pixels with added depth and material information (pixols). This comes in handy when you’re making more of an illustration, or creating textures and custom alphas. For example, you could detail 2-3 bricks with 5 million+ polygons of detail each. If you were making a seamless brick wall that had 20+ bricks, your computer just might start hating you and you’d be left with a rather large file. By dropping them to the document, you get the same amount of detail at a very, very tiny fraction of the size. Plus there’s a lot of neat things that can be done with the document, such as the seamless panning using the ~ key.

Thanks guys.

Coolio. That solves it. Thanks.

The philosophical answer turned out to be quite inspirational… I guess everything I discover about z-brush now has that “Wow! That could be quite powerful” feel to it. Thanks for adding this one to that list!

Cheers.
