and how the hair is made??
Wow, really honoured to be picked for top row, thanks again for all the positive comments so far.
Had not been sleeping much during the Chinese New Year, so no time for updates recently.
Regarding my displacement and vray settings, there really wasn’t any long-winded steps,
- No displacement maps, WYSIWYG, squeezed 1.5 million polys straight into Max.
- I painted and used bump maps for minor details, zapplink works great here.
- Enable basic Vray GI (i used 4 bounces for secondary GI), 2 planar vray lights, nothing else. no HDRI. no skylight.
- tweak the lights to emphasize the details of the model.
- test render, tweak lights, final render (3-5 hours each).
- tweak levels in photoshop.
i hope i’ve answered all/most of the queries. cheers.
the base mesh of the hair was made with polygonal spikes in Max.
I bypass the first to images thinking they where the ref images. Excellent job
Great work and very convincing materials!
still need to add battle damage, and trim his tail.
Freeza (Powered-Up)
Freeza (Normal State)
Those are really very aawesome. I’m getting back into my dragonball craze along with my little bro so it’s really awesome to see such high quality models of our favorite characters
You have a very nice eye for anime-ish 3d, itd be amazing to see those characters in a scene, try making a painting out of em. It would definitely have the awe factor.
hey im curious about a few things!.. 1- what subdivision level do you work with on these models (how many times do you subdivide model in zbrush before u start sculpting)?. 2- how many millions of polys can your computer handle in zbrush at once- 3million, 5million? 3- how old r u? are you planning on animating goku and freeza destroying namek in an epic 3d battle? ok thats enough questions for now… my suggestions: give your model of goku to pixologic.com so they can put the model up in the free model section because im sure lots of people would like to study that muscle topology (me!!!)… u have inspired me, and im guessing that theres hundreds of dbz fans that zbrush all over the world that want to learn from u, and all want to see more quality anime in 3d. (make vash from trigun plz!!!)
Awesome Works omnilight! I really love Toriyama’s Art… and you reproduce his Characters with impeccability!!!
That was unique. waitin to see more from u… …the result u produced is awsome…cheers
I love the world of dragon ball, and you are the best “drabon ball modeler” that I have ever seen (better than the guys who made Dragon Ball Z budokai). I really love your work.
I still working in my dragon ball character, and I will post it here too, I wish you can follow my advance and give me an opinion
See you man.
First off: simply fantastic work. I thought I was looking at a statue on the first post. Outstanding!
You should do as many of the characters from those series as you can/want to, it’d make an amazing display. Or maybe other anime characters.
I’d also like to point out how i love how ZBC put you in the top row. I saw the thumbnail and was like ‘huh? that’s some weird anatomy. that can’t be ri…OH CRAP!’ So thanks to you also ZBC for the awesome buildup!
Awesome sculpts! great to see Dragonball done justice in zbrush.Piccolo would look really cool as well, man, so many cool characters and vehicles in dbz to make!
hey man congratulations…ive alway wanted to make a goku…THIS is exacly what i want to see!!! I LOVE IT!!! keep the good work man!
please do a cell shaded version!!!
Fantastic work, great sculpting!…I like the render too
I’m looking forward to see your freeza model finished
My friend, you did a great job. It’s long time I am trying to make something like you did but for some reason I had always to abort my drafts. Now you gafve me a great inspiration showing all us that is possible to make something pretty even with Toryiama art.
I post here some of the last drafts to make Dragon Ball Z characters featuring Piccolo (in Italy his name is Junior) and Freeza. Of course they are very bad drafts!!!
Apart modeling, what comes difficult next for me is to find a good toon shading material. If anyone has good proposal, please post. Thanks
P.S. I found some free models inspired to DBZ on Turbosquid that may be used as templates.
Thanks again for all the comments, it has been very encouraging and i’m very motivated to zbrush more whenever possible
to “konjo kothar vignar” : i sculpt progressively up, always going back and forth levels. no plans for animation yet, i dislike rigging.
to “VikiFKT” : DBZ toys are pretty good for reference too, not fond of 3D toon shading but matcap could be used to create it.
i can understand why you’d hate rigging, its hard to rig such a complex character for realistic movement, but in my opinion its very worth learning because of its importance in the 3d process. i feel like its simple but tedious. if you have the patience to make such great models , rigging should be no big deal. theres also a few decent auto riggers. if u dont wanna rig the models, ill do it for u!!
