does anyone know if zbrush will benefit from having 16gb of ram, all does it only utilize a certain amount?? this is on a mac aswell if that makes any difference.
cheers
Short answer: No.
Longer answer: Zbrush isn’t able to allocate to 64bit long memory addresses. Meaning Zbrush is only able to utilize 3-4GB out of however much more Ram you have in your Mac.
thanks for that, i have 4gb at the moment, i just found some memory at low cost so thought it might be worth it. would it be worth upgrading to 8gb, so zb can use 4gb and the rest of the comp has some to do other things or doesnt it work that way?
In the world of 3D CG more Ram is always a good thing. Your Mac will run more smoothly when going from 4 to 8GB+. And yes, OSX and other apps running will take their share of Ram. So despite ZB’s 32 bit limitations, it will help performance a lot if your system has a spare 4GB to offer ZB without the OS eating into that.
