Does a new GPU help?

This is a stupid question, but:

If I upgrade my GPU to a GeForce GT200, will it help my ZBrush and LightWave?

I have a Radeon HD 2600 XT.

I heard Quadro Is for 3D, but I don’t want to use up more money then I have to, and I heard it’s not for gaming.

And if LightWave isn’t good with GPUs, then can anyone suggest something better?

It may help LightWave, if that app uses hardware acceleration.

ZBrush uses software acceleration, so the GPU makes no difference at all. Here are the things that improve ZBrush performance, in order of importance:

  1. More and faster RAM. This lets you work with more polygons, and lets you do things like switching subdivision levels faster. It means that ZBrush needs to write to disk less often, which results in fewer work interruptions.
  2. Faster CPU and more cores. This improves the performance while you’re interacting with the mesh. Your sculpting will be more fluid. Renders will also go faster.
  3. Faster hard drive. When ZBrush does need to write to disk, a fast drive will get it over with more rapidly than a slower drive. Don’t use RAID, though, as that’s currently not supported by the licensing system. (This will change with the next release.)
