Thanks Maarten!

Haha I agree Knacki with your caricature comment, the only reason I put caricature is because a lot of people criticized the size of the head and thinness of the body, but in essence they aren’t caricatures, just my “impressionistic” approach

Ditto about the new movie. It’s a new age, age where substance is less important, if not totally unimportant. The only thing left is doing your own thing

Here is an updated version of Rey, on which I’ve had a lot of fun with zmodeler for the helmet. Thanks for visiting!

Oh fantastic work! I love your style a lot.

Thanks so much!

Hey there Cherub,
Great great work. Really inspiring. I have a question. Did you have to obtain an official degree in Medical Illustration from an acredited institution to do work on such illustration? I know that it’s a personal question; but I ask because I have studied anatomy 2 semesters and was wondering if that were enough to do medical illustration or that one had to have a degree.
I guess it depends on the professional doctor, researcher one is working with who can verify your work.
Thanks and I understand if you don’t want to answer such a question.
Sincerely,
Steve Brown

Hi Steve!

Thank you for your kind words.

As a matter of fact no - I don’t have a degree in medical illustration. I have an MA in Animation and New media (Academy of fine arts), I’ve also had 8 years of anatomy and portrait classes through High school and on the Academy, and started in 3d out of sheer interest. I’ve applied to a job add for a Medical illustrator/modeler on this very forum, and got the job. I use medical books and photographs for references, and an anatomy expert in our company checks the models for accuracy. That’s pretty much it. I hope it answers your question.

I would say if you have an eye for the detail, can produce high quality work, hard working and dependable (and affordable) - then you are as good fit as anyone with those skills

Thanks for your prompt answer Cherub rock. That is good to know. I feel the same way as you do. As long as there is someone to check your work the judgement criteria should be your end result. Your work is beyond anything I’ve seen.
Cheers,
Steve Brown

Great work so far, but I think you should try to fix the mouth area. Specially the teeth who are too big

Thanks man! I see what you mean. However the size of the teeth and the size of here eyes are also intentional in my sculpt, I usually do a bit of exaggeration in my portraits, so they are an impression of a person I portray, and not 3d scans so to speak. I don’t like 100% realism, I think scans can do it so much better anyways, and it’s too technical for my preference. The way I approach my portraits is just looking at them and letting my hand go, sometimes it’ll be good, sometimes not very good. I despise putting images below the model and matching each angle, feels dirty to me, but surely that it sometimes sacrifices the likeness

You rock cherub!:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:

Haha thanks!

This is my latest and last model from the series Star Wars: The force awakens. ZBrush > Keyshot (with some help of 3dsmax and 3d-Coat).
