I was wondering if instead of adding support edges to your model for when you subdivide you could just divide the low poly with Smt turned off and then turn it back on. Seems like it’s worked so far. I just Dynameshed and then Qremeshed.
It’s not the same, although the results can sometimes work well-enough to do the job (more true the more planar the model is)
Ok, so don’t rely on it is what I’m hearing
It never hurts to be familiar with a few ways to accomplish something, and their pros and cons. The con with this particular technique that is that it subdivides everything, so it’s basically like adding control edges to every face. So if you want something more rounded and curvy with only certain areas holding a tighter shape (like the ends of a cylinder), this method probably wouldn’t work out that great because it would make everything faceted.
The creasing options would be worth learning.
