Dividing Trouble

I’ve modeled my character to a level where the geometry appears really bumpy when I brush over it. I believe this is because the model had very low geometry before I imported it.

I want to Divide the geometry. I know this has been asked, but I didn’t see an answer posted for my particular problem.

At the model’s highest level and I press “Divide”, I am told the model needs to be at it’s lowest level or delete subdivision history. When I switch to the lowest level, I am told the model needs to be in it’s highest level or delete subdivision history. I have no masks and no overlapping geometry . What can be the problem? I am only on level 5. Is this the highest I can go?

Are you sure your model is fully visible ? If a part is hidden, you can click on Ctrl+Shift+left mouse button to show the whole model, and then perform a subdivision.

You may need to turn your object into a polymesh if you started from a primitive, or something.
