Display issues

I just installed Zbrush on my new computer and have noticed a few problems. I was wondering if these are known issues and if there are solutions as I am really anxious to use the app.

Zbrush doesn’t seem to follow the standard Windows display protocols.

  1. I’m running a single monitor at 1920x1440. Zbrush doesn’t seem to want to go higher than 1600x1200. Any attempt to strecth the dialog reults in visual artifacts.

  2. Zbrush seems to take command of my OS interface, meaning I cannot switch to other windows or apps unless Zbrush is minimized.

  3. The menus on the right hand side of the ZBrush interfgace do not seem to be drawing properly. Its as if the menus are not being redrawn. If I mouse over the menus, certain UI elements get refreshed, but for the most part, I have a jumbled display.

My system:
MSI motherboard
ATI 9800XT (256MB) driver 6396
Direct X 9b
200GB harddrive
1GB RAM
WinXP pro

Hi Alan
Welcome aboard!
Before advice autorized I believe than the Max of Zbrush interface is actualy 16001600 and canvas 40964096
For running applications in the same time, it’s maybe your part of Zbrush memory in the Preference (menu inside)is too large.
Hope this help before more technical advices
So be patient and reduce your Interface resolution for your training before full display!
Have happy Zbrushing!

The ZBrush window does currently have a maximum width of 1600. To switch to other apps, you can also press Alt+Tab.

Hello alannoon

In brief, (edit not brief enough to beat aurick, cross posted)

First ensure that you’re running version 1.55b (displayed in the top left corner of the running application).

Zbrush is optimised for window sizes of 1600x1200 or below currently; and frustratingly doesn’t cope with more space in an elegant way. It is important to forgive it.

A solution to the artifacts is to start Zbrush, resize using the corner handles to 1600x1200 or less. Position on your screen where you want and then press Ctrl-Shift-I

This will save your window size and position as the default. “Ctrl-Shift-I” saves other changes you might make to the interface too.

Zbrush as of 1.55b is not perfect, but in all truth there is so much still of value there that once you appreciate it, all concern for the one or two rough cuts must be dropped. I’m sure the next version, perhaps 1.6, will address these issues more directly.

As far as OS interface command, I don’t know entirely what you mean. I have found bugs whilst alt tabbing in 1.55b, but have always been able to.
