Display issue for negative inserts when pressing alt Z4R4 mac

Unlike ZBrush R3 it seems that when I use a negative insert brush mesh by holding alt during dynameshing the created mesh does not display correctly. Only by selecting double in display will it show correctly.

Is this a known bug - should I submit a ticket?

It’s not a bug, the normals display flipped in order to instantly show that the new mesh is subtractive.

But it’s far harder to readjust the position when viewed this way surely?

When you draw out an insert mesh holding alt you see an xray shot of the insert meshes depth - is it possible to continue to see this xray so the cutting depth can be adjusted?

Which is why they have the option available to either display both sides, or to start with an additive volume and then later convert it to subtractive using the new dynamesh sub polygroup option.

I see thanks Cryrid - seems a shame though that the xray effect can’t be applied with the insert after it is drawn out to readjust the depth on the fly without splitting it to a new subtool - using transparency to check depth then doing a boolean dynamesh?

ah ok

then later convert it to subtractive using the new dynamesh sub polygroup option.

I see what you mean by this now - strangely when I press the " Group as Dynamesh Sub" button and try it does not work but when I press the “Group as Dynamesh Sub” button then use the short cut Cntrl + W > then cntrl swipe it does.

I’m liking the advantages of this system with dynamesh groups . Dynamesh groups can be later made subtractive too > cntrl +move “w” to group mask - press Polygroups> groups as dynamesh sub > then the shortcut cntrl+w > then swipe cntrl to cut a negative. Aha aho.

Later: Ah I see having groups on is fine but once dynamesh sub is initiated to make that chosen group a negative all other groups except that masked selected group become a single group and lose their group status.
