I tried a test for the sake of example and failed. Now I’m wondering why. Using Maya, I GoZ’d a cube, applied a surface noise and GoZ’d back with a displacement map. The polygons either explode, or with a mental ray Approximation Node set to Spatial 6, 3 and .1 it turns into a ball of dough with no displacement detail.
Getting displacements to work seems fine with more base resolution to work off of, but I just want to check and make sure its impossible on a simple cube. I even tried GoZ’ing a single poly plane and ZBrush wouldn’t take it. Subdivided at 10x10 it worked out fine.
