displacement tests 3dsmax 2010

Hi all. I’ve been working on some displacement tests between zbrush 3.5 and 3dsmax 2010 to try as close to my zbrush sculpt as possible. I have a pic here showing the various settings with different values to try and work out the best pipeline for me but so far keep getting close but no exactly the same.

If you check the image you’ll see each tentacle has a bobble at the end which is not present in the original. Also in zbrush the sculpt has a kind of zig zag stretching of polys in some places which doesn’t come out in the max version.

Pipeline:

  • AUV 2048x Tiff (tried 16bit/32bit various settings - see image)
  • source mesh 500k / target over 1million
  • using displacement modifier with map slot, and strength adjusted by eye.

just a bump to try and get some feedback as how i can fix these bobbles and get better displacement. anyone? please…

what settings did you use to export these?
like what mid and scale settings
