Displacement Seems problem

Hi there,

This is my first time posting in this forum so hope I am posting in the right place.

I’ve been having this issue with a number of models that I have created:

The displacement maps that I export out of Zbrush have different color variations across UV islands/Udims. So when I apply the displacement in Modo there are noticeable seems. I have tried changing the export settings every which way but still the same problem persists.

Here is an example of what I am talking about. This is my base mesh in Modo with the displacement maps from Zbrush applied as Diffuse, so one can see the variation in color across the seems.

Is there any way to solve this? I somewhat hope that it is me doing something wrong and that it is a simple fix… I have looked everywhere and haven’t found anything.

Much thanks!

Damian

What are you doing to create the maps? If you have a model with multiple maps you should be using MultiMap Exporter rather than Tool >> Displacement Map. It was designed specifically for dealing with issues like what you’re encountering while also making the creation of multiple maps easier.

Thank you for your reply.

I am using the multi map exporter to generate the displacement maps. I have tried playing with basically all the different options but I get the same result.

Much thanks,

Hi,

If you are exporting 16 bit displacement maps then you need to use the Multi Map Exporter “16 bit Scale” option. This option ensures that the same value is used for all maps. For more information see the MME documentation:

http://docs.pixologic.com/user-guide/zbrush-plugins/multi-map-exporter/

Alternatively, use 32 bit displacement which has actual scale baked in.

Hi there, thanks for the response!

I have tried both 16 bit scale and 32bit displacement. I am still getting extremely noticeable seems in Modo.

Well then you’ll need to ask someone who’s familiar with Modo. I can’t think of anything else that would affect the ZBrush output.
