Displacement Problem - Vray!

Hello!

I have just started to check out the Displacement option, and Damn I have seen good results on the net!

Well - Here’s my problem!

I have created a little qiuck shape of my character!
BUT it doesn’t look right!

Heres the pictures:
The nice looking ZBrush model - Sub-D-level 5!

And here’s the 3Ds Max Vray -Displacement- Render - Sub-D-Level 1, with 2x smooth!

Workflow:

I Generated the Disp Map (Sub-D-Level 1) using Multi Displacement 3, and the proper settings.
R32 - With the EAEAEA quick Code!

I Exported the Map and the charactor, and imported the charactor into 3Ds Max!
Gave it 2x Smooth, and applied the VRayDisplacement modifire, and picked the Disp Map!

Thats it… but it didnt work!

Please help me somebody :frowning:

How I did it:

First I applied GUV mapping to have the same type of UV’s you have.

Then you should:

Follow -E-'s steps and QuickCode from this link (except when -E- says “Turn on adaptive” I prefer to use DP sub pix of 2 as Adaptive can have some nasty effects if you have a hard edge eg: wings, it’s up to you):

Import model into max, convert to editable poly, apply a Turbosmooth mod iteration of 1 then your Vray Dis Mod and apply the displacement map (3D Mapping). Don’t forget to set the displacement map Blur in Max to 0.01 (right click on the spinner).

The Amount and Shift values (like every other renderer for Max) are any bodys guess - do some test renders to see what looks best and compare with your ZBrush model. TIP: If you import an OBJ of your model at a higher sub-d level from ZB into max you can use this to check for bloating etc.

Set the edge length under 3d mapping in the Vray displacement mod to 1 and you can up the Max subdvis levels here too.
