Displacement Map Looks Horrible - Maya 2009

Compare the stitches over the mouth in particular:

I’ve tried playing with the alpha gain and other settings but I just can’t seem to fix it…

I appreciate any help. This is the first time I’ve used a displacement map. Following a tutorial on youtube.

I just used zbrush’s normal displacement generation feature and exported the alpha map, next time I read a guide ( http://www.zbrush.info/docs/index.php/ZBrush_To_Maya_Displacement_Guide ) and did it their way using MD3 but the maps are just nothing but grey, doesn’t work…
