Displacement Map in Maya +/- Average node problem.

i am currently stuck :(. For the life of me, i can’t get a multi displacement setup to work correctly. I followed every tutorial to exist about this subject, searched every nook and cranny of the web to find a tutorial that could help but could not get it right.
Tried both 16 bit and 32 bit maps and still no success. THE problem is that i get a bloated model.

so… You would thing to mess with the alpha offset, etc. etc. right? Thats what i thought… Apparently, i changed it and it did not make any difference at all! Strange right? So i thought i maybe modeled the model incorrectly but nope. So then, i tried something. I actually had to scale the model bigger for the displacement map to work correctly.

So, my questions are.

  1. Why is alpha offset and alpha gain not effecting my displacement? It stays the same

  2. Why is it that i have to scale my model to see the effect of the displacement map happening?

i’m using zbrush 4r4, export my maps using multi map export
and using mental ray in maya 2012
