Displacement map from 2.5D canvas?

Hi everyone,

I’m pretty new to ZBrush and have been stunned by the work showcased on this forum - hopefully as time goes by I’ll be posting more work and less questions!!

My problem refers to the video tutorial in zClassroom which describes how to make a tileable normal map for a cobbled street. I was wondering if there is any method to extract a displacement map rather than a normal map from objects dropped to the canvas.

Any help / suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to read

I don’t know what method you’re using to get the normal map from the canvas, but odds are good that you could instead use Alpha>GrabDoc. This will capture a 16-bit depth map, which could be used for displacement.

Aurick, thanks for the reply. I was painting the entire canvas with the NormalRGBmat material and using export from the document menu. Grabdoc from the alpha menu works great - thanks again…
