displacement issues

I’ve created a height map in world machine and when I applied it as a displacement map I got digital pixelating (for lack of a better word). The map itself is a 16 bit RGB map. It also happens when I used the map as an alpha brush. Any idea why this happens? It doesn’t happen when I apply the mesh as a displacement inside of 3ds Max.

I’m having the same issue. Displacement map is generated in World Machine, and output as an .r16 file. Imports into zbrush just fine, and shows as a 4k x 4k x 16 bit depth alpha. But, using as alpha brush or with displacement tool gives me ugly lines. Any known way to avoid this, or a way to post process this to fix the issue? It seems like the alpha is getting set to 8 bit somewhere along the line but I can’t see anything obvious to a noob.
