Displacement issues with funky geometry and artifacts

Hi Guys

I was wondering if anyone can help me with an issue I am having with my displacement in maya 2010. I am getting it rendering and its looking good to me, but I am getting quite a bit of artifacts and if u can see by the ear the geo is going crazy? Does anyone know why by any chance? As I dont have any overlapping uvs. Any help with this would be much appreciated
