Displacement in Maya. I have yet to do it once!!! help. haha

Hey everyone. First off I love Zbrush and I know that this can be done because I see people doing it all the time but I just cant get it. I have a model that I made sculpted in ZBrush…its like 1.5 million polys at its highest division level.

I exported everything right into maya 2009 and the displacement map looks right in photoshop. I converted it to a .map. Its a 32 bit just so you know. Anyways, I follow scott’s awesome tutorial and do everything exactly.

Also, yes I am “using alpha as Luminance” and maya render preferences are also using alpha as luminance.

Anyways, I suspect that where I am having a problem is inside the “approximation editor” in the SubdivisionApproximation. because I think its when I mess with that where everything goes wrong. All my settings are exactly like scotts from the turorial but I crash everytime unless I turn off the SubdivisionApproximation.

Here are some errors I copied for you.

392010: surface “babymakerNEW:polySurfaceShape1”, displacement shader returned values up to 2763.35, clipped to 532.648
GEOM 0.6 info : 153600 tris in 1854.3 ms from babymakerNEW:polySurfaceShape1 [8]
GEOM 0.6 info : performance warning: object babymakerNEW:polySurfaceShape1 [8]: displacement shader returned values up to 0, please check whether max displace 532.648 could be reduced
SURF 0.6 warn 392010: surface “babymakerNEW:polySurfaceShape1”, displacement shader returned values up to 1141.08, clipped to 532.648
SURF 0.7 warn 392010: surface “babymakerNEW:polySurfaceShape1”, displacement shader returned values up to 1330.94, clipped to 532.648
SURF 0.6 warn 392010: surface “babymakerNEW:polySurfaceShape1”, displacement shader returned values up to 1043.71, clipped to 532.648

Okay, so all it does when I hit render is show these error repeatedly and then crashes.

OR something else happens!

I get the error 092025…and it crashes. haha

Anyways, i i havent been able to get a render to complete with subdividing successfully. I was able to apply displacement once but it looked like it was only displacing over my low rez object so it was nasty.

Anyways, what do those errors mean? Please help. And let me know what you want me to post. Pictures…etc…
