Displacement in 3ds Max 2010

For those of you who have been having problems rendering displacement maps in 3ds Max 2010, I may have a solution for you.

First download SP1

In 2009 back, you had to set your RGB Offset to -0.5, but try leaving it a 0 in 2010. It seems as though they have made this offset under the hood so you don’t have to do it manually every time.

Set Displacement Length and Extrusion Strength to 1.0.

I got these tips from someone on the AREA forums. I don’t have 2010 yet, so try these things out for yourself and write back to either confirm that this works, or list any changes you had to make to get it to work properly. I’m sure other Max users will appreciate it. Thanks.

Thanks a lot! I was just rendering something with the old settings and the result was horrible  I’ll try this and let you know what I’ve accomplished.

You’re welcome, did it work for you?
