I am fairly clueless why this is happening but it is getting annoying and I have not found the answer yet. Does anyone have any idea why my displacement maps are coming with the edges totally stretched/skewed?
Thanks in advance

Apparently… something to do with smoothed UV? You got weird stretchings on the texture too… You might wanna look into smoothUV.
thanks feureau. looking into that now I’ll check back when i see some results
still working incorrectly even without uv smoothing. Any other ideas?
Those edges take place outside the UV borders and are an inherent part of what happens when you overpaint the edges of a displacement map. That’s what Fix Seams is all about. When done with a color map, you still get the same effect but it’s not visible in the same way as with a displacment map.
Because the effect takes place outside the UV borders, it should not affect your render. Also, it is there specifically to compensate for variations in the way different programs can register the 0,0 UV point. It looks funky when unwrapped, but helps avoid seams when rendered.
