Is it possible to disable the left-click free rotate (or the left-click navigation at all)? When sculpting places near the canvas the model often rotates which gets really annoying after some time.
I don’t think that’s possible. But can you say a bit more about the problem you’re having? I’m not sure I understand exactly.
I believe it’s designed to work as it does. If you’re on a part of the model, you can sculpt or paint etc.; If not it rotates the model. I find it works quite well. Maybe increasing your draw size would help?
I mean that while sculpting the far side from the front view for example it is easy to press on the canvas and rotate your model. I use right-click navigation only, and would be great to have the left-click just for sculpting.
All software has a learning curve, some find things quirky or have other idiosyncrasies. You’ll become aware of them after a while.
Ah, thank you, I understand now. There are a couple of things I can suggest:
-
Keep an eye on the cursor. It will be flat when over the background (and so would rotate the model) and at an angle when over the model.
-
You could temporarily stop all rotation like this:
- Fill the canvas (Ctrl+ F)
- Redraw your model by click+dragging downwards. Turn on Edit mode (T).
- Right+click navigation will continue to work and you can scale/position your model how you want.
- Clear the background again anytime by pressing Ctrl+N.
Thanks for the suggestion. I hope in the future releases ZBrush will have the options to modify or disable navigation hotkeys. (I understand it was designed to work like that, I just want to make my workflow more comfortable and productive)
Ah the Classic, workarounds and saying ‘It just works this way, Get used to this, learning curve…’
This is also an issue which is quite annoying for me…
Here are other links discussing the same issue and all kinds of workarounds…:
Here’s my workaround:
Lock the camera when it gets really annoying:
As you can imagine, it won’t make it so that you could sculpt by click and drag from background to mesh… Your cursor must have to start from mesh to sculpt/paint b/z Pixologic says so…
It’s impossible to implement some buffer space which could allow paint/sculpt when cursor is not exactly on mesh’s edge but a few pixels out in backaround… -_-
Hello Ayush thank you for your solution . this is definitely the only comfortable solution. i would like to add to by making a hotkey for that button , i setup ctrl+tab for it so its easier to press.
