Currently on 4r7p3; still having a problem where I accidentally tap the D key and my mesh goes into high-res subd mode. Is there any way to disable this hotkey or change it to something I won’t constantly hit by accident?
Hold alt+ctrl, assign clicking any function the same shortcut and save it in preferences, shortcut section.
Thanks for your help - I don’t completely understand what you mean though. I know holding Alt+Ctrl will allow me to assign a hotkey to a function. Are you saying I must have “D” as a hotkey for something, but that I can assign it to something other than Subdivision mode? It still doesn’t solve the problem of hitting the D key and getting some result… I’m trying to think of a ZBrush function that doesn’t do anything that I can assign to it.
Or, do you mean that I can assign a different hotkey for the Subdivision mode?
Thanks for you suggestion, please let me know if you have any other ideas, thanks!
Also, I just remembered that the D key not only activates Dynamic Subdivision; it also steps up the subdivision levels of a tool that’s been subdivided. This function is great and I would like to keep that - I just want to remove the Dynamic Subdivision activation. I tried putting that on a different key on the other end of my keyboard, but D still activates it. Then I assigned D to a null Zbrush script, but lost my ability to step up in subdivisions.
This macro will do what you want. Save the file to the ZBrush 4R7\ZStartup\Macros\Misc folder, then press Macro>Reload All Macros. You will then have a button in the Macro>Macros>Misc sub-palette called “Higher-Res”. Assign the “D” hotkey to this button.
The macro turns off Dynamic Subdivision if it’s on, ensuring that it’s ordinary subdivision that you’re going to a higher level.
Hey Marcus thanks for the script! This does in fact turn off Dynamic Subdivision if it’s on.
The problem I’m having is when I’m using a dense Dynamesh tool and I accidentally activate Dynamic Subdivision.
Going into Dynamic Subdivision takes a long time to calculate, especially if I’m using a Dynamesh. Sometimes it hangs my machine. It’s really disrupting my workflow.
Mapping Dynamic mode to another key doesn’t help - “D” still works to activate Dynamic mode.
I need some sort of script to disable that, but still allow Higher Res if I’m using subdivisions. Essentially the behavior of 4r6 and previous versions.
