Disable camera rotation with left mouse button

Hello! I rotate the camera with my right mouse button.

I want to sculpt on the edge of an object without mistakenly clicking outside the model and rotating my view. I know that I can block the camera, but that’s not comfortable not optimal.

Is there any way to disable the rotation of the camera with the left mouse button? Or to map it to something else? Thanks

Hello @simonsanchezart,

You cannot remap the navigation options in ZBrush.

You can lock the camera via the button on the side of the default interface, or in the Draw palette. Why would this be uncomfortable if your goal is freeze the view?

You can also store a camera position with the Universal Camera features, ensuring that you can always return to that view if you ever accidentally rotate it.

:slightly_smiling_face:

Locking the camera is uncomfortable because I must click a button or a shortcut to sculpt on the edge of a model without rotating the view, if I want to move the camera again then I must unlock it.

I might also want to zoom in, slightly change the angle of my camera or pan, meaning that I would have to be constantly locking and unlocking my camera, which is annoying.

Having the option to disable left mouse navigation would be really useful, I know I’m not the only one who has asked this.

We already have the option to enable/disable right click navigation, I’m sure a bunch of users (including me) would appreciate having the option to do the same with left mouse.

Feature requests can be submitted to Pixologic Support. I don’t make those kind of decisions

You can remap the camera lock function to a hotkey, which makes it much faster to toggle on and off.

You might also look into the Space Mouse. It gives you much more granular control over navigation, allowing you to zoom without rotating, and also works independently of the camera lock option. This means you can lock the camera keeping the pen stylus from accidentally rotating the camera, but you can still deliberately rotate, zoom or pan with the SM.

Good luck!

yeah, sculpting on the edge of an object – even with spacemouse – when you accidentally start a stroke off the model, the whole view spins.
Very annoying.

It would be nice to disable that

Has there been any movement on this issue? There really is no fix that comes close to what would be achieved by simply being able to disable the LMB-click rotation.

Bumping this to keep it relevant. Everyone that hates this behaviour should send a feature request support ticket to Pixologic. The more people that officially complain, the more chance we have of being listened to. This is surely a very SIMPLE fix for the devs, but this seemingly small issue greatly detracts from the sculpting experience.

It’s surprising that it has never been addressed because I know @PixoPaul is a big fan and long-term champion of right click navigation.

Hi @Spyndel, @aurick and @moderators .
I already wrote about this problem to SUPPORT CENTER

But I received only this standard answer.
Nothing specific.

Dear Tomash,
Thank you for your input regarding our products and services. It’s thanks to suggestions like yours that we gain a better understanding of our users and their needs.
Creating new features and updating existing ones keeps us very busy, so we may not reply to every message. However, we do read all feedback.

Kind Regards,
Maxon Product Management Team

It really is so inconvenient to workflow.
If a large model with many elements, and if you accidentally touch the empty place of the screen, the camera begins to spin. Then it’s hard to look for that section of the geometry on which I worked.
It makes me annoyed and evil.
And if it is necessary to circle the edge with a brush, then this becomes a huge problem. Because you constantly touch the empty screen location next to the edge of model. What causes often the camera rotation, it’s confusing.

Just allow us to disable left click navigation (optionally). It is such a small ask.

Kind Regards

Hello @Spyndel

We would just like to ask to add a new option to Navigation menu.

Disable LeftClick Navigation

or

Disable LeftClick Rotate.

Thank you

I too was very surprised to find that this simple toggle isn’t possible. This is a huge annoyance to workflow.

I am so surprised they simply dont allow you to change shortcuts. Like it’s not a hard thing to implement in a program??

Time for the yearly bump of this absolutely mind-melting long-term issue.

If I could pick a single thing that I would like fixed in Zbrush, above all others, I would 100% choose this every time.

Even though I’ve been using Zbrush since V 1.52B - over 20 years - I can never, ever get used to this issue. No other sculpting program does this, and as we’ve all mentioned above, surely it’s just a simple fix and a matter of adding it to the Navigation sections of prefs?

Please, please Maxon, if you only give us one update in the next year, make it a fix for this glaringly unnecessary issue. Thank you.
