Digital Tutors and ZBrush 3.1.2

Hi - can anyone give some quick info about the brush noise setting and how to put it between 0 and 1??

Iam using the newest Digital Tutors, Intro to Zbrush3 dvd to learn and loving Zbrush!! But the version in the dvd seems to have some differences from 3.1.2 that make it hard to follow.

I am trying to change the noise setting for a brush using the Brush >> Edit Curve menu, and it will only let me choose between 0 and 1, no in between?!?!

I’m a little frustrated http://209.132.96.165/zbc/images/smilies/confused2.gif Sorry if this is the wrong place for this thread - it seemed like a good place to start.

Just type in the number between 0 & 1 (ie. 0.5). If you use the slider it snaps right to 1 or back to zero.

Matt

Thanks Matt. I will give that a try! It seems my problem is actually coming from the fact that, when I set the slider all the way to 1, as the tutorial does, my brush is still clean whereas in the tutorial it has become noisy and jagged. I’ve tried many values between 0 and 1 (after reading your reply Matt!) and none seem to produce any noise at all in the brush’s curve.

Here’s my brush settings other than noise (I haven’t changed it much from the default):

Standard Brush - ZIntensity 25, Brush Size 64, RGB Inten. 100
Offset 0
Noise 1
Focal Shift 0
Samples 0.75

I can’t replicate your issue. I put my brush settings to what you wrote and I got noise similar to the Digital Tutors screen cap.

So, there could be something up with your version of Zbrush. Are you on a Mac or PC? I would send support an email.

Sorry dude.

Matt

Using the Mac version right now. Thanks for checking if it worked in your copy, Matt. I’ll give customer support a try.

Amychr, I took a look at this on my Mac version 3.12 and it would not add the noise regardless of the setting (.5, .75, etc.), however it does work fine in my 3.12b version. Are you using 3.12b?

No i haven’t tried that. I will get the update and see if it will work.

Cheers!
