i know this is an old question but with a slightly different focus. this is also more of a photoshop question, but i know its an issue for many zbrush users trying to render in photoshop. there are tutorials out there for using zbrush generated depth maps as alphas in zbrush for use with the “lens blur” filter in photoshop. my problem lies in using this technique when you plan to mask the zbrush object you’ve created into a background in photoshop:
i export a render, depth map, and mask from zbrush into photoshop, then mask out the render’s background in photoshop. if i use “lens blur” with the depth map on the render layer, i get poor results in my opinion because the layer has already had its background masked out. the blurred edges have an unrealistic fringe to them in my opinion. “lens blur” works better if i use it before the background is masked out, but then i am unable to successfully mask out that background.
any thoughts on how to tackle this problem? i tried to find an answer to this by searching the forums, but didn’t really see this issue addressed. maybe i’m doing it wrong! thanks.
