womball, thanks for the indepth information. It sure gives me a lot to go on and I picked up lots of tasty bits. I appreciate the time you took to give this information to me. I have had so many countless hours of trial and error and this helps alot! Thank you :+1: :+1:

punchatz, a.k.a. Greg,
First off, thanks for the kind words.
I value hearing how you got your start, and all the effort and passion you’ve put into getting where you are.
Your absolutely right about the pores technique. It has been around awhile. I see it everywhere. I just didn’t realise it.
As far as the technique I refered to as WadeWrinkles, it seems to be just an “on-the-fly” version of making custom alphas, that suits unique wrinkle shapes. I find it handy and like that it feels alot like a “real-world” sculpting approach. Nothing special, just handy.

I really appreciate you posting. Especially from someone with your long track record, experience, and high standing in this community. Thank you Greg.

Oh, here is an old photo from back in the day. (It’s a slightly altered version of the original).

Thought you might get a kick out of it. (Look at everyones hair back then;) )
See you around here and thanks alot for the PM

Holy mullets and camaro mullets! Aaron Simms looks like he’s out of some 80’s music video/ hair stylist,Greg kind of has manly hair that is eating his one eye (btw I figured out the different layers of the sss shader, just not entirely yet), ;-)and for you, you remind me of Bruce Cambell+ mafia hitman+afro= gorilla suit.

No wonder why you guys can turn out fantastic artwork so fast. That’s at least 20 years of experience! Makeup effects is something I would have loved to try, but they didn’t offer at my school. Its tempting to enroll in Tom Savini’s college up in Pittsburg.

bicc39, voodoomonkey,womball,
Sad but true. Actually, one guy, Gabe, is wearing a wig!

More importantly,

What are you doing for Halloween?

OMG I remember that article!! I spent forever in my parents basement trying to replicate that animatronic finger extension design in aluminum flatstock!! ahhhhh wasted childhood!

Ahhh you guys rock… Was then and still am a fan.

Scott

Yeah it sure is nice to know we all did it before it was digital! Wonderful to see this stuff again. Great to see images of the people and things that drove us to do more - posted here. As for the hair issue mentioned, man we all had the ‘look’ for every era!! Haha, it’s a wonder any of us haven’t been scarred for life. Besides I’m sure some of you would kill to have the hair now a days!

Excelente Mr.Monster.:+1: :+1: :+1:

That is an absolute work of beauty. sniff

that looks really cool brian! awsome!

Feliz Hallowen, Mr.Monster y gracias por tus palabras. Me gustan tus criaturas, Bad Mamma Jamma está genial y Creatures Walk Among Us me encanta con ese supercerebro lleno de maléficas intenciones, supongo.

Un abrazo y terror forever, friend.

I had a thought about your WadWrinkle technique. If you mark the model before you go into Projection Master you should be able to line your alpha up perfectly.

(did anyone say this already?)

Scott Spencer, Jason Belec, saltapiedras, billrobertson42, baker17, Elixir,

Thanks guys,
I am presently trying to wrap my head around the painting thing.
Sadly, when I pick up from projection master, their seems to be a big difference in how it looks. Also, when I render, “Best” it changes even more.

Anyone, any way to paint and have it stay the same?
Appreciate any tips…
Thanks,
~BW

You might want to take some images of the differences. You can do this with prtscn button next to scroll lock. Than in microsoft paint, just hit paste in the edit drop down. Screenshot of the action! This is assuming your using windows, not sure how to do this with a mac.

Hey Brian,

What happens when you pick up from Projection master? If you are painting color and it shifts that seems to be a bug with the pickup routine where small artifacts will sometimes appear in places unreleated to your painting. I usually correct these with the morph brush as I come across them.

As for painting details in PM if you pick up and it is suddenly softer that just means you need more subdivisons in the model. Try raising the max poly pr mesh setting under preferenes:mem to the highest. This can cause some instability though…

I may have misunderstood the issue you were having though but if you just export your document you can post an image of what seems to be goig wrong.

best,

Scott

clone brush, I mean

Hello Mr Monster,

I have a different technique based on Ryan Kingslien's technique. Basically I do the photo projections with the image plane at the different angles, but what I do differently is that I don't take them into photoshop afterwards. Instead, I load up my favorite one and I start using ZAppLink to blend them together in photoshop directly on the character itself. This is a way better method than trying to paint on the UV Maps in Photoshop. You need to have a lot of ram to do this. My Post Realistic Male was done with this method. I am still working on him though.

Nate Nesler

Hey Brian,

What size Texture Map are you using? I may not be big enough , Max it out at 4096x4096 and try it.
PATTON

I’m also a ZB rookie but here’s my 2 cents,

like Patton said max out your texture resolution for sure especially when using an automatic mapping option like GUV with tons of seams. Check out your map in photoshop if you haven’t done so it will give some idea of why you’re getting the results that you are. You’ll see why mapping in an external package like Maya can be a pain, but well worth it, kind of like stretching and preparing your own canvases for painting. When you do get your UV issue figured out check out Kris “Antropus” Costas tutorials on photo projection. It should also be easy to find if you search under Antropus, its also in the gallery like everything he does, he’s friggin amazing. Same goes for Scott Spencer, check his links out. Your model is Kick Ass!! :stuck_out_tongue: keep it up.

I would like to extend a special thank you TO EVERYBODY WHO HAS BEEN SO GENERIOUS WITH THEIR HELP, GUIDENCE, AND SUGGESTIONS, to me and with this thread, and also via PM.
THANK YOU ALL:+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:

Please feel free to openly and honestly rate the work. If you think it’s worth 1,2,3 stars or whatever, your opinion is valued.

IN RESPONSE TO THESE LATEST REPLIES:

womball, Hey pal. Thanks for the tip. I appreciate it. I will give it a try:+1:

Scott Spencer, Hey amigo! Thanks for the suggestions. it is good finally chatting via PM with you. Let’s try to meet up my next trip to LA

MatrixNAN, Nice to meet you. I am very interisted in this technique as you’ve discribed it. I will PM you about it if that’s cool. But, I have to pause my ZBrush work for a bit, but i will get back to you on this if that’s cool?

Patton, Hey Scott, Good to hear from you and meet you. How’s it going? I was thinking that this might be the problem, but wasn’t sure as I am still pretty “green”. I will try this as well. Thanks for the help. PS Some of the KNB guys were just out here on “Hostle 2”. Small world eh?

Subnormal, Nice meeting you as well. Sounds like I have a lot to learn…I truely appreciate all the info. I agree with you. their are some amazing talents here. Like the ones you’ve mentioned. Everybody has been very helpfull. Great guys all.

I will try all these out when I am done with the project I am on.
See you around here in the mean time
~Brian
