Dell XPS 15 L502x for ZB?

Hi guys,

Anyone here use a Dell XPS 15 L502? Any other recommendations for laptops that can run ZB & other 3d packages and graphics intensive apps? I’m due for an upgrade. Any advice will be greatly appreciated

Thanks,

Yvan.

I don’t know what your budget is, but if you have some money saved up, I would highly recomend the Dell Precision line. I use an M6500 laptop myself and it’s fantastic. I do everything from Zsculpting, Photoshop painting, Modelling/animating/rendering in XSI, and editing full HD video on it and it’s a serious beast. Especially for a laptop.

I had a laptop of the XPS line, it ran Zbrush ok up to a couple of million polygons. But the laptop had a lot of issues with overheating to the point where you would burn your wrists when resting them on the laptop.

Hi,
I have a Dell XPS 15 with the 2nd gen i7-2720, NVIDIA 540M, 6GB RAM. I’ve been able to get 4 million polys comfortably, but had issues testing my model at 8 million polys. My current project consists of three subtools: one at 2.6 million polys and two at 1.3 million polys. I haven’t had any issues.

As far as overheating, I haven’t had any issues.

I’m not used to laptop keyboards, so I sometimes accidentally hit the Window key when trying to press the Alt key. Also, the screen on the XPS 15 is small, so you might consider connecting your laptop to the TV with via HDMI cable.
