Deleting the extraction

Is there an easy way to delete the extraction.

have a torso, masked the area that I wanted, then I extract. when the torso is hidden only seeing the extraction. I see the top part of the extraction and a bottom part of the extraction. I would like to delete this bottom part.

I tried splitting the group. this doesn’t work.

I can select the lasso and hide but this will take for ever to hide just the top part.

Is there a way to mask something to hide it?

The inside and outside of the extraction will be separate polygroups. You can Shift+Ctrl+click on the outer part and then the inner part will be hidden. You can then delete that by pressing Tool>Geometry>DelHidden.

Thanks, Shift+Ctrl+Click : looks pretty similar to splitting the group. Which gives me the outer shell with Back Culling off, so it looks like there is missing geometry on the side to close the shell.

When I do an inflat on the vest it creates a bulge on both side allowing you to see through the missing geometry.

Is there a way to connect these edge loops together?

I think I am not understanding what you are trying to do. You had better show some diagrams or explain more clearly. You can turn on Tool>Display Properties>Double so you can see exactly what you’ve got. Having split the extraction - either using Groups Split or polygroup visibility and DelHidden - surely it is easy enough to select the portion you want to keep and delete the rest?

When you extract something a hidden mask remains on the extracted geometry.

Try pressing clear mask in the mask subpalette (or use shortcut for same) and then click and hide the blue part.

Thanks marcus_civis you been a big help. learned some new ways a doing things.

As you requested images go allot further than words alone

Detail A goes over the steps that we talked about.

OK, thanks, now I understand what’s happening. The extraction you have done is a double extraction because you masked geometry which already had an inner and outer shell. My images show the difference.

Solution for when you want to keep the extraction:

  1. Do a Groups Split. Some subtools may still have an inner and outer skin (as in your image).
  2. Press Tool>Polygoups>Auto Groups. This will create a separate group for each skin and you can either Groups Split again or Shift+Ctrl+click and press Tool>Geometry>DelHidden.

To avoid creating a double extraction when masking geometry with an inner and outer shell:

  1. Set the Brush>Auto Masking>Mask By Polygroup slider to 100.
  2. Paint your mask.
Provided the inner and outer shells are separate polygroups only the one you paint will be masked.
