Is it possible to delete portions of a mesh, or must all ZBrush meshes remain closed?
Thanks.
you can delete parts of a mesh…I do it all the time…however care must be taken when doing so, so that you don’t delete parts you don’t want deleted.
Thanks - now, what is the tool to use?
hahah oops sorry.
use the ctrl-shift drag to select parts you want to delete…you might have to do some finer tweaking on those parts to save what you what to save so while viewing the …let me start over…
ctrl-shift drag…shows green…that lets you choose parts of a mesh, then shows you just those parts. So lets say you have face and want to get rid of eyelids or something.
ctrl-shift drag over the part of the face that has the eyes. You should see a green rectangle over those. let go of the mouse button first. now you will see just that portion. However there will also be parts other than the eyelids you want to save.
now ctrl-shift drag and let off the ctrl-shift keys first and the rectangle will be red…the red will remove from current view the parts you don’t want to delete.
when i get close to what I want…as in i think I have isolated just the eyelids i go to tools :polygroups and click group visible.
then i ctrl-shift click outside my model to bring it all together again to make sure I do not have parts included in that group that I want to save…rotate the model to be sure.
then ctrl-shift click on the eyelid group. it should be the only thing visible. now ctrl-shift drag off the model to show everything but the eyelids.
go to tools:geometry:delete hidden.
you can also mask the part you want hidden, go to mask and invert, click on hide visible, then go to tools:geometry:delete hidden.
hope this make sense…there are tutorials in Z2 that show how to do this…i think under…selective mesh. in case I am not clear enuf here.
practice on a model or tool of no importance first til you SEE how it works.
Ah, thanks very much. I figured you could delete via masks, but I hadn’t come across the Delete Hidden button. Thanks.
Hello . . . Can someone tell me why I can’t see “Delete Hidden” under tool:geometry? Also, I do not have a polygroup section under tool. Am I looking in the wrong place?
If your model is a parametric/primitive object, those options won’t be available. You must use Tool>MakePolymesh3D and then select the new model from the Tool palette before you’ll see those options.
If your model is a ZSphere preview, you will have access to the polyframe, but not be able to delete polys. Again, you’ll need to convert the model to a polymesh before you can delete polygons.
