Delete Hidden = loss of fine details?

Hey all,

This is more of a not-setting-things-up-properly problem than anything else. Im working on a sculpt all in ZB and it hasnt been unwrapped yet. Basically Im trying to break apart my model a bit so that I can have seperate uv’s for higher resolution on certain objects. My process has been, clone the tool, hide what I dont want, delete hidden, append the cloned tool, delete the opposite so that I have the same sculpt, just broken up into 2 subtools.
All of that worked perfectly except after it re-subdivides the geometry, I lose a lot of my fine details in my higher subdivisions. The subdivision levels are still there, it just looks like a smooth operation went over the sculpt.

Any ideas as how to delete geometry without losing details?

mask the full model at its highest level before going down and then deleting

The best way I’ve found is to make polygroups of the different subtools you’d like to make. Then use tool>Subtool>group split. That will not have the smoothing effect that delete hidden does. I don’t use delete hidden for that exact reason.

Thanks for the tips spaceboy412 and goast666, it looks like both methods work. The groups split worked a bit easier since I had the pieces polygrouped. Just what I needed, thanks again.
