Deformed head after ZRemesher with symmetry

Hi guys,

I have been recently working on preparing 3D Scans to print. Some of them have deformed ears, toes etc. so I thought that it would be nice to have a symmetry turn on to resculpt it. Of course scans are not 100% symmetrical and it causes problems when I am trying to ZRemesh object with symmetry. It goes well for the parts like legs and torso but when it comes to head it makes head deformed like on the picture below:

While orginal looks like this:

Is there any way to fix it ? I would like to have head with symmetry but I would like to keep details and shape as well. Or maybe at least there is a way to ZRemesh body without head ?

Thanks in advance for your help. It would be life saver

Best regards,

Hey Dude,

Looks like you just need to move everything more towards the center. Right now the axis isn’t centered, so it’s mirroring strangely (the head is leaning left for example). If you press x to activate symmetry and move your pen to where the two red dots meet in the center you can see the middle, or you could just insert a cube or something to visualize the center axis. Then just use the move tool or transpose tool smartly to get everything in the middle. You could do this with the head as well.

You also asked if you could make just the body symmetrical. The answer to this is yes as well. You can hide the head and do split hidden and it will create two separate objects. Then close holes, mirror and weld, and when you’ve got it where you want, combine them together again and dynamesh.

It’s best to do all this before zremeshing, so that it’s symmetrical before you do it.

Also in case you didn’t know you can z-remesh without symmetry on if you just hit X to turn it off before running zrmesh.

Hopefully this helps, let me know if you have any questions.
