Deformation/size causes displacement issue...

Cant seem to find any reference to this so…

Model created within Zbrush and exported for 32bit displacement. On importing to renderer (Max) discover that obj is extremely small at 1:1 scale. Would like to re-size in Zbrush and re-create 32bit disp map in order to maintain the baked in relationship between model and map. After using deformation/size 'MultiDisp 3' suddenly takes forever to generate the map (forever=1 hour as opposed to 1 minute before using the size command) Does anyone know a way to rescale a tool without this issue?

any help appreciated

thanks Julian

After using Size you’re also going to have to change subdivision levels. This tells ZBrush to translate that change across all levels. Otherwise, ZBrush is going to calculate the map based on the differences between the now huge level 1 and the still original size high level. This is why it’s taking so long to calculate.

Changes made at any level only update the other levels when you actually change levels.

By the way, I’d also check the Max import settings. There may well be an auto-scale feature, in which case the whole matter is moot.

Thanks Aurick - although am not sure exactly what you mean by ‘change’ subdivision levels - do you mean add another subdiv level or simply move down to a lower level and back up again with the slider to reorient zbrush?

Max settings are all good - thats one of the many variables I have finally nailed!!
