Deco Brush has ridge at outside edge

Here’s another problem I found when doing the Gnomon Intro to ZB4 alpha tutorials. (In case you are wondering what tutorial I’m talking about, it’s in the Freebies section of the Gnomon Workshop website - “Creating Custom Alphas in ZBrush”. Free registration required to view)

When using the 2.5D Deco Brush on a layer filled with a material, there is a ridge outlining the stroke. (See screenshot below). I haven’t changed any settings on the brush. I’m using the Drag Rectangle stroke to apply it.

When Scott Spencer does this in the tutorial, there isn’t a ridge outline. (See screenshot)

Has anyone else encountered this problem? I’m using ZB 4r6. Thanks!

what material are you using? do you have RGB or MRGB turned on? What does your alpha look like and what is your mid value set at?

I was using MatCap Green Roma although it does this with any material. Mid value was 0, Alpha 51, Max button was active in the alpha palette. I was also using the Drag Rectangle stroke and texture turned off. MRGB and RGB were off, ZSub was on.

I did try adjusting the mid value, but it still left the ridge.

Personally I would just use wrap mode to create your alpha.
