decimation master?

decimation master
I’m just learning about this new plug in. If I can save a low poly count model with detail preserved does this mean decimation master can be used instead of having to make normal maps and displacement maps
Tony Hayes

no,

you cannot save a low poly version with detail preserved but you can save o lower version of your mesh with the detail preserved.

that means that decimation master will delete all the useless polygon of your model but it will continue to be a high rez version of your sculpture. As it’s presented you can decrease the number of polygon from 5000 K to 50 K but it’s still a heavy mesh an you have to use the normals and disp maps to export a low rez version into a game engine or something else.

Thanks for the reply, sounds good; Tony Hayes

Just to clarify what Dealer2Couleurs has said: Decimation Master is for reducing the polygon count of your model without losing the detailed sculpting. You have a lot of control over how it does this, so that the resulting mesh is extremely close to the original despite having a much lower poly count. This means you can take the decimated mesh into an app like Maya for rendering without the need for normal or displacement maps.

Where you will need to make displacement/normal maps is if you want to animate your mesh, in which case you would not use Decimation Master at all but generate the maps in the usual way from your animation-ready low res mesh.

Got it.
Thank-you both Dealer_2_Couleurs and Marcus_civis for your inputs, very much appreciated
