decimation master > maya > º_º

when i import a decimated mesh from maya it turns out strange (maya shows many of the triangles of the mesh transparent) in the viewport as shown in the image here. this decimated model is 578k faces

it renders out okay, but i want to know if anyone knows how to fix this or has had this problem? thanks :+1:

Hey there,

i’m not a Maya user, but i would say those are non-planar Polygons. Just change the shader to double sided and you should be able to preview it correctly.

Hope that helps

hey dsoellbuster thanks for ur reply. I’m not too sure wat u mean but the shader is already double sided thats one of the reasons this is strange. i only have this problem with decimated meshes. however if i have a decimated mesh thats around less than 200k faces, then there begins to be less and less of these transparent triangles the lower the polys the decimated mesh is. It sounds like a performance issue but if no one else is having this problem then maybe its a kinda unique bug?

anyway just incase here are some of my specs

  • quadro 3500fx
  • intel i7 920
  • 6 gb ram
  • maya 2009
  • windows 7 ultimate 64bit

very strange problem… i’m not a Maya user… but perhaps you should check if your realtime shader is double sided, or check the normals direction.

hey totyo  its not a shader problem or normals problem, they’re fine. this model has clothes which i also decimated but they are at a lower amount of polys and they are fine with the same shader and theres no problems. this only happens with decimated models that are around 150-200k or more, quite strange >_<

Hum… that’s strange… I don’t see what could cause this visual problem…
