Decimation Master Issues with 4r7 P3

Hi there,

Just wondering if anybody else is having issues with decimation master crashing on ZB 4r7 P3? It’s driving me bonkers and only works about a 3rd of the time. ZB 4r6 works 100% of the time but obviously has model size limitations.
Anyone have some advice on how to overcome this?

I use decimation master all the time and haven’t had any issues. What size are your models? Also it might help to clear your cache once in a while. Under Decimation Master > Utilities > Delete Caches.

Thanks for your feedback. The models are running in anywhere from 10 million to 80 million polys. I’m aware that 70 is way too much for decimaster so I use the slice tool to chop it up into different poly groups > split by sub tool> decimation pre-process with freeze borders activated.
I even decimate a single subtool, quicksave and then do the same to another knowing that a high percentage of the time it just freezes up completely. I can leave it all day and it won’t come back to life. Sometimes the application window flashes like something in the background has overidden it.
I’ve tried to dump the cache but it doesn’t help me.
On the models which r6 could could handle, decimaster worked smoothly, no such luck with r7 in my experience. I know this because I had r6 installed on another work station and could export out from r7 as an obj and then bring it in to r6. It would decimate perfectly. Soon after licensing issues kicked in so I couldn’t do that anymore but It was time consuming anyway.
I’ll try a clean install soon to see if this actually helps but I feel I may not be the only one with this problem and I’m dubious this will fix it.

Yer i’m having massive problems with decimation master as well. At framestore we have recently started to use decimated meshes alot instead of dis maps, especially on environments, such as trees and rocks, and any object over 20 million ish crashes due to ram problems.Even though the ram never gets close to being used up.

This seems to be a pre-process problem as i can decimate objects at around 19 mil wihtout any issues. Also, pre process all does not seem to work at all anymore with multi hi poly sculpts.

I not a massive fan of having objects this highpoly if i can help it, but youre always asked to go a little higher if you can, and slicing objects always seems mess uvs about which means more work.
