Decimation master destroying my mesh

Hi guys, i have a high poly mesh with 6.600.000 polys, i wanted to drastically reduce that, i tried using decimation master but I could only reduce it to 4 000 000 withou completely destrying the mesh, that was about 30% i think. I dont know what to do, ive seen guys here claiming the reduced a 10 mil to a 700k and every time i go past 24% of the detail the completely destroys my mesh. What should i do? this is my first time with decimation and i just started learning zbrush.

I often find good results with just the default settings. Do you have a screenshot of the result you’re getting? The topology is going to get messed up for sure, but the resulting surface shouldn’t.

Im sorry, i re-did the process and everything went smooth even on a lower decimation. What i think happened is that i did the pre-process of my tool with some masked areas, that is the only explanation, i re-did the process several times the first time and it didnt help, now i tried doing it without the masks and it worked! thanks a lot for the help man.

Yeah, in my experience trying to decimate a mesh with masking is just a terrible idea.
