Decimation and Polygroups

Is there any way of using Decimation Master whilst keeping the polygroups in a merged sub tool?

That depends. A method that will work is to use UVs. For example:

  1. Use UV Master to unwrap your model making sure that the Polygroups option is on so that each polygroup is a separate UV island.
  2. Decimate the mesh making sure the Keep Uvs option is on.
  3. Re-create the polygroups by pressing the Tool>Polygroups>Auto Groups With UV button.

Thanks Marcus

You’re a life saver.

Would I be right in stating that once Decimated modelling is out of the question, however polypainting works fine?

Thanks again, just hope I finish this project before ZB4 is released.

Polypainting would be OK but is not precise when creating polygroups. You’d be better off using the same method as above - it would work without the decimation step. If you have set up UVs that you need to preserve you could simply re-import them after re-creating the polygroups.
