decimation an normal maps a question.

Hey all,

I have a model comprised of a lot of high poly subtools. I plan on decimating the subtools that are finished to save memory. My question is: should I generate my normal maps for each subtool before I decimate them?

It seems logical that I would want to but you never know.

Thanks a lot.

Decimation Master will preserve UV’s, so I think you could do that successfully.

So do you mean that I wouldnt have to create them first? Thanks aurick.

In my own tests Decimation Master preserved the UVWs flawless - it’s so sweet! And also I’m amazed at the level of detail it preserves even at 1/10 of the mesh density…

Go nuts

Yes, create your normal maps first. Make sure to save them out as well. Then decimate your subtools. Don’t forget to Keep UVs on in the settings.

okay thanks a lot folks. Hey gabo/Paul have you ever tried it without saving your maps first? My concern is obviously the loss of detail if I decimate to a really low level.
