death metal

I like the entire piece, and I like the first image/render the best.

If you’re willing to experiment a little more. I think it might be interesting to see the skull as a highly polished reflective silver metal inside the rough suit. Or perhaps as bone. Something to contrast it from the rest of the picture.

Really great design…
Metal looks fantastic :+1:

very kewl looking work…

Use of primitives in this fashion has been around in a while with some kewl results…the first I remember that used it with great success that comes to mind are the wonderful works of Stevie Rae…simply inspiring works to say the least, as is this and Meats works.

The reason I bring this up, is that it is sad at times to see some of the zbrush pioneers forgotten. Ofer Alon of course made some outstanding mini tuts on this stuff, for making pipes and tires and other things with the mask and inflate technique. (btw miss your artworks, Ofer).

enough waffling…great thread and I look forward to more of your works…love the black and white versions.

 lest best… the black & white is cool…

jantim, the last render “eroded-aluminium-dude” I like very much:cool:

cool, pixelsoul: same time, same idea:laughing: :sunglasses:  :+1:

and this one was the last one…a bit to much decay i think !

no!! that decay on the last one is amazing!! that i really like

how about all the metals parts: to look as if carved from bone? with a bone material

and all the bones to be crafted from metal and decayed? with maybe some fleshy organic parts like your heart/gut materials???

 keep it up jantim, inspiring  :+1:

Ryan…Well i alway’s hoped that the guy who wrote all the cool Zshaders, Ofer i think ?, would tell us more then just : “The shaders work together to create a result” …i’m just a button pusher, with a lucky hand

Lemo…i hope to download one of your materials soon:+1:

Bill…frankly i had my fill of skulls for now !

Odhinn…thanks

Ron …you are right Stevie made great images with primitives…but he was a man of the first hour - at this moment the great “gods” of the top-row are the one’s who already made their mark with Maya, or any other of the programs used in the industry !.. i don’t see the “old” Zbrush style -combining Ztools & primitives on this forum- very often !
But who knows what the newest batch of members will come up with !
Thanks for your waffling…hope your not bored by mine;)

Abyssis & Pixelsoul…same time ,same idea…thanks to you both:laughing:

metal man02bnew04.jpg

i found my metalman document and changed some material, killed the ambient light values an added some primitives and depht cue

jantim

I agree I guess…out with the old and in with the new…like that song “What have you done for me lately”

Love the update. The depth cue really added to the realism to me. I will have to save this to my kewl pictures folder on the computer.:+1: :sunglasses: :+1:

CRISP!!!
I love it!
Lemo

But the depth queue is a tad harsh. The left eye of the skull is blurred to heavy compared to the right eye. If it should be a DOF effect then this difference would not be that harsh. The are to close together…
Maybe a tad tweaking with the curve?

And I agree, the materials are a bit of a mysterie… I am still having a hard time figuring out how S1 and S2 etc. affect each other and what the rules are. IN the end we are all slider jockeys in that respect. Hey… Slider Jockey… I just made that up LOL.

Man, that material looks great!

Cheers
Lemo

freaking cool… as usual…

Nice! Real nice! I love the last render. the DOF seems strange around teh left eye as we see it, although blurred the edge is still sharp. is that a deliberate decision? Gets 5 stars from me…I love your work when I see it.

As someone new to the zbrush world (in fact i’ve been modelling in general les than 6 months), I can see how in such a short time things have drastically changed. I’d love to see more people try and use Zb for haard surface stuff.

Wayne…

Excellent piece Jantim. Bravo.

Awesome!!!

Ron…the only person who is on this forum from day one seems to be Frenchy…and he’s still using a demo …and since they must have burned his car down by now it will still take some time for him to buy Zbrush

Logick…sorry i forgot to reply…me bad…i don’t think i’m gonna spend more time on this metal guy anymore…i must try to do some serious modelling on other projects.

Sebcesoir…i’m happy you like it

Vlad…thanks !

Gorilla…hope to see this guy on your website

Lemonnado and DarthWayne…your both right on the DOF observation…i used a to high softness-value in Depht -cue ,in combination with a to high size in the Antialiasing…the problem is i like to use antialiasing setting 1 in combination with a high size 6 or 7 in order to keep the materials crisp and lower the rendertime…but that does not work well if combined with depht-cue !
as you can see in this image …

DOF.jpg

jantim

Need I add more praise for those materials dude…

It really shows how a material can totally change a scene…

Great work…

“Slider Jockeys” (good one), no doubt!

Nice concept, and materials, i kinda like the extreme DOF.
good work!:+1: :+1: :+1:

Do you know Richard Rosenman’s DOF Photoshop Plugin???
A must have! You can export your PS, save a Depthgrab alpha map, and use both with that plugin in Photoshop. Works better than any DOF I have seen in any other app. I use it with ZBrush and VUE5, and XSI if I render all passes.

Quick and extreme sample:
[zdepthtest.jpg]
I placed sphere’s and moved them to the front a bit after each copy with the camera button. Then I saved that pic, ALpha Grabdoc’ed a depthmap, saved that. In PS I combined both with the DOF Plugin while selecting one sphere for focus. Results are excellent.

Cheers
Lemo

PS: Check this out when you are working with LCD Screens:

I always had ‘drizzle’ in some grey patterns. Now it’s ROCK SOLID and certain pictures look way more crisp than before! Have a look!

:+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: Mmmmmmmmpffff…very nice and rusty Jan. Love it!!! What would we be without lovely rusty Jantimthingses :warning:

More!!!

Jeen(deridoo)

Buckie…thank’s !..yes materials…i can keep rendering for day’s… its great fun…and it keeps you from doing good clean modelling

Sadicus…the problem of the extreme settings for DOF is the crappy outline it produces, making it look very fake…and you have to blur the edges in post-production !

Lemo…i know of these plug-ins…but i never used DOF in renderings very often
i started using it in Zbrush as a sort of “extra” antialiasing…i think Zbrush is the only program that antialiases the “iside” of an object and not the " ouside"

Yainderidoo…Ah, another rust-fetishist
