That’s cool! I like it! Keep it up and please sculpt the body too!

Thank you for the comments and sorry about spamming images
Had to lose some detail on some tentacles , so i’ll fix those next. Gonna add a sideway belt and add seaweed on the hat and jacket.

awsome awsome work. I envy you

Really nice work. I’m enjoying watching this thread as much as others do.

Hey there Namek …

I think that Davey is coming along great …but if i had to make one crit of him it would be that his tenticles are looking a little short.

I understand hes not complete but just thought i would give it a mention.

Keep up the fine work …im sure he will turn out great.

And maybe youd like to take a look at this reference…

Looks good…

Looks like your having to rework the tentacles some.

I’ve been playing around with an octopus head of my own, and like you, modeled the tentacles in close to final position. If you don’t take certain steps, it makes it hard to model suckers and high-freq detail later on. One thing I did was create each tentacle as a unique polygroup, or at least put tentacles next to each other in separate polygroups. What the creators of Davy Jones did was model the tentacles angled out in a starburst.

Over on Plakkie’s topology thread, I was able to pose a high-res tentacle with high-res suckers on it without too much pain using one of the rigging techniques they discovered.

Yeah , that’s the problem with too little preparation , I only started out to make the head, wasnt thinking of posing at all. And before you know it you’re at 8 subdivisions and in a mess

But i’ve learned for next time then

For now i’ll rework them in place, shouldnt be too hard, except that it is getting slow to work on.

next was just something fun to end the night and to try out your material Jaycephus , going to bed now  (eyes are composited here)

Fantastic stuff

Awesome work! Keep it up, I’d love to see more updates.

hi~The Namek:
This is a very cool guy!
i think the front of this guy’s tentacles, looks better if they become longer, perhaps.and i think the sucker on the tentacles maybe bigger more.
this is just my think of it:) .I can’t wait to see more updates!keep it up!:+1:

And could i ask an question:i very like the guy’s hat,it’s looks so thin~how do you made it,zphere or basemesh?thanks!

The hat is a double sided 3d plane actually

Some small fixes and additions :

wow,you know i also was thinking to make a davy jones

because i like the character so much, but yourse is so good

i can’t even come close what you did, keep up the good work
(1 little thing to make it even better, try to make the material like his skin

to have the kind of transparacy) :+1:

This certainly is top row work! :+1: :+1:

looks good
i also like the render. but you could improve the wrinkles. at the moment they are all very straight vertical and don’t have much variations.
and the wrinkles on the original davy jones are much more decent

Whoa, very impressive work! Someone better have ILM contact you for their next FX-blockbuster. Keep working at it, this is looking great! :+1:
