Darkeye; Clay guy gone digital- Hello ZBC.

Hello everyone,

my name is Tim and i usually sling clay@wax about to make shapes but have been dipping in and out of ZB for a short time. bought it in 2009 but couldnt get a handle on it. started being more in to digital December 2011 and have been learning since then. Dynamesh has really helped to make it feel like sculpting .

been working on this guy for a bit and have made changes as i iearn more about the UI and workflows; 1st images were my initial sculpt with dynashperes welded together but i wasnt happy with the detail definition so i deleted the boots and made new ones in Maya(second shot,no guns).
i am now looking in to Curve Insert brushes and want to add straps for the holsters so any advice on using zb to get sharper results would be appreciated. tips and methodoly welcome.

many thanks and happy modelling.

Fantastic start Tim.

Im from a clay background myself.

Only thing I could advise would be to respect the geometry. Dynamesh is cool but I find myself avoiding it as its a little like modelling a high sub D mesh. I like to think of a low sub D mesh as soft clay with the high res meshes being clay when its harder…just for details. I sort of suspect you may well get more from Zbrush if you use zspheres to make your intial mesh then step up through the sub D levels for details.

Pete

hey there Pete ,

thanks for the repy buddy.
i have been having problems with a fully dynameshed piece as the X symmetry tends to be ‘off kilter’ fairly quickly. i did start out using a zs rig and adaptive skin but would at some point dynamesh it. before that i’d be using the techniques from Scott Spencer’s books. which was a rig skinned and the built up with clay tubes brush.

i'll look again at that method. another pice i have is being built up with Insert Sphere and Transpose like Ryan K does. seems to work well but i dont understand all the implications of such workflows with regard to eventual print out. so much to learn..... :)

i have older images i can post.

following Peter’s advice and vieing his tutes on DT i am trying to using some of the techniques and methods to get a crisper result. this one is better but i an still leaning clean up techniques but i like where its heading so far…

I made one too few years ago. Doctor Who has alot characters worth trying to sulpture in Zbrush … sometimes i skim through the old episodes just to find something that inspires me ^^ … btw the new series started yesterday :bulb:small_orange_diamond:D
Nice works, stay motivated tim :+1:

thanks BW,

yes they are cool characters. i had the dalek image in my head as i was going off to sleep so decided to try one. i think a Cyberman would be interesting too. Thanks for the reply, i really appreciate folks taking time to look and reply.

all the best --tim

I have not used this thread for ages but thought i’d pull it up again. I have attached some doodles and was wondering; on semi naked models wearing a leotard like Miss Marvel or Elektra’s outfit, I guess you can leave the clothing extraction and have it be printable but with Black Widow I am uncertain if I need all of the base model underneath? can you just slice off say the hands and head and dynamesh it to the bodysuit extraction and still have it print ok? Or do you need both parts? hope I’ve put that across ok? If you can help me, I would be grateful. I’m only interested in sculpting for print as opposed to the very technical Rendering stuff. I still use clay but want to be able to do that on ZBrush. --many thanks--

Hi,
here is a link to one of several threads here on ZBC where to find some good info
in regard to 3d-printing,you just have to invest a little time searching.

As far as I know there are two basic rules:no thin sheets consisting of single sided polys,
anything has to have a thickness.
And every part has to be watertight (a closed surface).

Thanks for the link JMEYER. I’ll give it a read through. I was aware of the ‘water-tight’ rule but not the single sided poly. I take it then that any extractions need to be double sided… --many thanks –

doodling this Girl among others. early days yet but based on sme lovely art by Tom Flemming. --atb--

Ms. Lantern.jpgmS mARVEL 2015-DONE.jpg

Hiya everyone.
I haven’t posted for a long time but am still trying to improve. Here’s MS MARVEL as herself and as a Dc Marvel crossover- MS. Lantern . Working on my drawing skills in a bid to get better at sculpting. Hopefully she’s better than ole Punisher there.

thanks for looking- all the best – tim.

Neat concept!

Thanks Takai.

she suggested it after I made a new Avengers base for the Marvel one. A GL showing some skin would be cool.
