Dantert's Sketchbook

Looks interesting! The color of feathers and drapery works very well with his skin and bony elements. For some reason I see this guy as a unit in strategy game… but this is probably because I’m playing in “From Dust” too much this days

  • Note to myself: I should also try sculpting stylized characters

Go for it my friend, I would like to see more stylized characters around

Here’s an update of my Darius for the Riot challenge on polycount  Hope you like it!

Hey man, great progress and style overall. Love the angular forms. What is a name of material used here? Is it a modification of Basic material? Cause it looks similar but works very nicely with polypaint.
One thing I’m not sure in terms of anatomy is that diagonal line that crosses upper part of his Vastus lateralis muscle in gray render. I still cannot understand what exactly looks odd to me since in back view this area appears correct, but looking from a front it seems like a meeting point of Gluteus maximus and Tensor fascia latae (below the great trochanter where the iliotibial band begins) is moved too forward, and instead of lying on top of the Vastus it cuts through it, causing this strange line. Lol, I hope my description isn’t very confusing :D. And it might be just due to the angle

Thanks for the comment! That part you’re talking about is just the result of an overstylization of those muscles, I pushed the forms to the limit to achieve some nice angular shapes  It’s the valley between the rectus femoris, the tensor fasciae latae, the vastus lateralis and the iliotibial tract.
The material there doesn’t help a lot in making the forms more readable though, my bad ^^’
The material of the last render is a blinn that I modified some time ago and a quick light setting.

So here’s my entry for the Riot art contest on polycount. If interested be sure to check the high res images on my original thread: http://www.polycount.com/forum/showthread.php?t=141250&page=6
Since even the renders of the low poly, exept for the wireframe are made in zbrush I’ll post it here too, with a little tutorial since it was requested multiple times on the forums.
Hope you like it

So finally I can start releasing some stuff I worked on in the past months with the Shockwork Studios team.
Yep! That’s why I wasn’t that active on the Internet lately.
This is basically a Commander miniature for the tabletop strategy game that we’re working on called Black Rain, her name is Kali…guess why?
But here you go! For more infos about this character, the tabletop game and the progress check out the blog : blackrainthegame.blogspot.de/
Final image layout by Michal Bernat.
Stay tuned for more updates and images!

Great! Very sweet design. From style aspect reminds me that girl from MGS Rising
If I recall correctly Kali is a goddess of destruction (just a week ago I’ve read a book where it was mentioned hence I know it :p).
Glad to see you are more active again!

That looks absolutely awesome! Love the multi-arm concept, as well as the visor. Like Vir, I’m also reminded of Mistral from the MGR game, but I like that it goes off in it’s own unique direction.

If memory serves, Kali is a Hindu goddess of death and destruction worshipped by the Thugee cult. She’s represented as having many arms (probably representative of the banditry and thievery of the Thugee), and held between her teeth would be a newborn child.

Thanks!

Yay! I have finally some more stuff to release about the work I’m doing in my free time for the tabletop strategy game Black Rain with the guys from Shockwork Studios.
Original concept by Michał Bernat.
This is the first completed set of the standard unit from the Unas faction.
And we’re starting with the prototyping! So a lot of fixing and scaling of the little details will come

I LOVE characters with planes! They are so beautiful.

The slightly soft look of the clothing is a nice contrast.

Amazing, excellent – great work. Smooth posing, too.

Love the style and execution on these models; excellent work! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks guys! Happy to see you like them

Here’s a render of Kali that I made some time ago and forgot to post

Good job. It is just sad that you are not updating this WIP often.

Yes…that’s sad…unfortunately I can’t show everything as soon as I finish it because we have rules about releasing stuff.
But more will come soon

Here’s another character I made with the guys at Shockwork Studio for the tabletop strategy game Black Rain.
He is the legendary Special Operations Commander Cazador Gutierrez from the NAU(North American Union) faction.
If you want to know more about this badass or the whole Black Rain game, there are plenty of info on our blog, check it out! (http://blackrainthegame.blogspot.de/2015/08/weathermen-4-gutierrez.html).
