dang - looks symmetrical but tools don't work symmetrically anymore!

howdy,

so i’ve been looking around the forum for symmetry questions but haven’t found an answer yet-

basically i have a body that looks symmetrical, i’ve run smartresym on every level of subdivision with and without half side being masked…

it LOOKS fine. but i’m not done yet!

i still have work to do on it but while the little floating red dots do indeed seem to grab the “other side”, none of the tools work symmetrically anymore… so if i use the move brush and move the right side of my mesh a little bit to the right, the other side doesn’t move a little to the left, it moves right too!

same thing with other brushes… if any geometry is pulled to the right on the right side, it’s pulled to the right on the left side too!

so basically, i’m stuck now. anyone got any ideas how this is different from a standard “drifted asym” and how i did it, how i can avoid it in the future and more importantly, how i can get it back now?

oh, the mesh IS not a “solid”. i cut the hands and feet and head off to make them subtools…

hmmm… is THAT it?

jin

no… that shouldn’t be it…

my head is not a solid either but the tools work fine still on the head.

jin

It sounds like you’ve turned M off in the symmetry modifiers.

OOOOOOH!

is that on a “per subtool” setting?! i hope that’s it! will try it when i get home. thank you very much.

jin

woohoo!

got home and tried it! that’s totally it! each subtool DOES have its own symmetry settings and while on for some subts was off on others…

cooool

thanks much aurick.
