thank you all so much for your fantastic comments, I really wasn’t expecting such a mind blowing response

jkemp - thanks man  your’re right, that banding gave me quite a headache. with the noise trick it either became too noisy or the banding was still there. next time I think I’ll go with a properly lit background much more then adding anything in post. actually I hate every second i have to invest in technical stuff like lighting, rendering, post, etc instead of sculpting - but hey, thats cg…

am3dartist - thanks a lot! I used maya mental ray. I described the process on page 7.

simply awesome!

Woah!.. amazing sculpts in here, so full of life and character. congratulations on top row, you deserved it! very well done!

killer stuff man!

Regards M.

Oh my…!!! Impressive work!!! Details, face and body expression!!! Loved your work, congrats!!! :+1:

Truly impressive work! Thanks a lot for showing your rendering setup. I’ll have to try not using gi and final gather and keeping the photographic exposure.

Dude … . destroyer. Your modeling is amazing and the expressions of his characters are fantastic. Congratulations!

Astonishing and Great! Can`t find more words! Best Regards.

thank you all for your great comments! it really means a lot to me

great work man. LOve the classical sculpture feel. what is your approach to doing the hair? Did you use Zbrush or Maya? I have been trying to find a tutorial on creating this classic style sculpted hair in Zbrush. Let me know if you have any tips

Your work is superlative! It’s truly outstanding! Every single detail is right there. These sculpts are alive with such emotion, realism, and attention to detail unlike anything I’ve seen in these forums before. You’ve reached an artistic level that few of us can ever hope to achieve. Congratulations! Tell me please, what training have you had? What kind of reference did you use for these sculpts? And, do you use IMM brushes, or custom alpha brushes, for repetitive details, or do you sculpt every single detail meticulously by hand?

Thank you for your kind words!

Zeus44 - Thanks! actually the hair techniques I learned from Bogi Piroth, my girlfriend - she is very good at that. The most important thing is thinking in masses. additional strands can be made with the curvetube brush, and refined with various slash brushes (i mostly use slash2). Its very important for me to have good reference, that is a key for me also - and as said, especially with hair, never get caught up in the details, first think in masses. But if have to say that i saw lots of great zbrush hair examples, and cg hair simulation improved a lot, so if you are shooting for realistic results, than that’s the way to go :). I like sculptures, so i think i stay with that style for now

Webhead - Thank you :)! I haven’t had much professional training - but i always loved art, i love to draw, and sculpt. I visited some art classes when I had the time - and plan to do so in the future as well. I really love traditional methods, and I’d like to implement some in my workflow in the future. for reference i use what i can find - for the young african woman I used Cordiers african venus for reference, for the 2 soldiers i had life reference models, the other ones i had to do from photo reference. actually i’ve done every had at least twice or maybe 3 times from scratch, cause I never was satisfied. IMM brushes i haven’t used, but i should have, it would have made a lot of things easyer  alpha brushes I only used for pore detail on the face, but i’ve done a lot by hand there too, it can look very mechanical by using only alpha brushes.

holy moley!
so real face expressions:D:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:

just finding back my words:

I love it. Fantastic sculpts!

Amazing characters!!!:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:

Could you say me what is your workflow?
First you sculpt t-posed characters? After you posed characters and paint more details?
Or posed and sculpted like a sculpture? How works symmetry example in hands when the character posed?

You did an awsome work with theses face expressions and hands dude!

Keep rockin’!!

jesus dandan… take it easy man, very amazing work

thanks for the comments guys, it really feels amazing to get such a great response!

illusionist - thanks! my typical workflow is : after i have an idea i try to refine it, make some research, look for an awful lot of references, and if i can study life models. often i draw, or what helps the most is making small sketches with plastiline. i tend to do some work on a tposed character, but not too much, just proportions, maybe main masses and such, cause after posing i have to redo most things anyway. hands for instance i have to do over and over again, i have a very basic basemesh that i pose, but it deforms so badly, that I have to do them one by one. I also like to work on a full character as long as possible to see the whole thing, most of the times when zoomed in on a particular part it doesn’t blend in, or the proportions are slightly off after a while. to be perfectly honest 70% of the personal stuff i do remains unfinished, and I never get back to it… I usually let them rest for a couple of weeks, and with fresh eyes i always see more mistakes, and rather start over from scratch. That’s the problem with lack of free time, I only have 1-2 hours before I get tired, and when I’m not fully focused than work just leads to frustration.
