Great pose! He’s lunging at me ready to take my head off! haha. Great work! keep em coming.
hmm bloody! i like the cartoonish feel you gave him. very nice! keep it up
rodion vlasov: Thanks. Your new thread is so cool. I love to see how much you have improved. When you gonna get a scene together? You got the talent.
rouncer: Thanks! Posing characters are my favorite part. The slightest turn and angle of the head can say so much about a character.
Aberrant: Thanks. I’m most proud about his left hand. Just the slightest bit of grace within such a violent character.
gordon-v: Thanks a lot! Will do. Your most recent posts have been amazing. A definite step up in your game! Keep posting.
This is my submission for the CGChannel.com Frank Frazetta Homage Modeling Challenge. I just had to enter. He is my inspiration for rhythms and form within a finished piece. Its still a WIP. Need some help with anything you could point out. I am not trying to match every single form and detail about the illustration cause it would just look really horrible in 3d. This is due on the 1st and I should be able to finish.
I am definitely going to get this one printed out when its done.

nice man! you getting better and better!
Beautiful sculpt…I’d like to be this Gun master too
hey good start man!
As far as I can tell the hand, feet(the poor girl has no toes  ) and his lower arm look a bit off for now.
keep going.
great thread Danconia!
nice to see the progress you made
keep up the good work
Hi DAnconia, long time no talk. I like your new project. Great start!
Maybe you can spend a little more time on the folders of the trouser? Id make some of them a little "sharper" (pinch brush maybe). And I agree with d_lavega, his right arm needs more work (upper arm seems to be a little to short. Also, when I compare it to the original image, his ellbow and the tendons on his hand need more work but I know it
s still a WIP. I`m looking forward to seeing the next update.
gordon-v: Thanks so much man! Means a lot coming from you.
SolidSnakexxx: THE MANTIS MAN HIMSELF!! Whats up buddy. Long time no talk. Been awhile since the Hero Challenge. Hope you are doing well. Thanks a lot.
d_lavega: Thanks. Well didnt sculpt her feet cause they wont be shown. Could you elaborate more on the arm proportions. I have looked at it over and over again and cant see where its going wrong.
schiefer: Thanks. Sculpting at least 4 hrs a day for 2 years has definitely been worth it. I live I LOVE IT!
Moni-Poroni: Hey girl how are you! When you gonna post another update? Its been way too long. Ill remeasure the arms again but they are proportionally correct. Going to adjust some rhythms in the forearm and add the veins in tonight or tomorrow. Thanks for reminding me of that.
Thanks for all the comments! Here is another up. Finished placing all the cloth and got this point of view almost to where its done. Maybe another day or two. After that i will go all around the model and make sure it looks good from as many angles as I can stand.

DAnconia, Long time no talk indeed… I just love checking the progress of this piece… Looking so wonderful.
the concept eludes me somewhat. i dont understand the naked women with a western motif. and the wife-beater shirt? his mustach reminds me of wyat erp or doc holliday as well as the choice of guns and the hat, but the rest of the design looks more like a conan the barbarian cover. strong modeling. but i think you need some costumes to tie everything together. or let us in on the backstory.
Great sculpt! Great job on the anatomy. I agree there is no solid idea behind this piece, what I mean is you can get a lot of interpretations from this piece. I bet if you asked 10 people one word to describe it, you would have 10 different answers. Not a bad thing IMO, I like art that is just art and makes you think. There may be one feeling or idea you have in mind, but to me this is pretty open for interpretation but great none the less.
In short, this is great work, and I like the open interpretation. Nice mat caps too BTW.
mjolnir: Thanks. This is a Frank Frazetta Homage contest. The original concept art is posted above. These are not my original characters. There is an entire book written behind the character you see in the sculpt. Frank Frazetta is the same guy that did the Conan covers you are referring to.
Aberrant: Thanks. Again this is not my concept but the great Frank Frazetta’s who can do no wrong.
Thanks for all the support guys I really appreciate it!
wow, man. i feel stupid. hahaha. well, that would definately explain why i felt the conan influence. i used to read them as a kid and ii felt conan as soon as i saw this, so you are doing something right. to tell you the truth thoug, the origional would need some explaining too… which, i guess is why its a comic… full of an entire story as to why a cowboy/ mime or venician boatman/ pimp or whatnot would make sense. hahaha, good work then!!! but i think you may have to keep updating the premise with each new post, just so passers by knows whats up. boneheads that dont read the initial instructions, such as me. on a critiques note, i think you should tone down the muscles a tad if your trying to follow the origional. i think your characters arms are a bit pronounced compared to the origional. and i think the butt of the rifle is a tad too sharp. but, you capture the spirit… which is hard to do… so congrats. keep it up.
I can’t say I’m always the biggest fan of Frazetta’s subject choices, but they have a certain campy quality to them you’ve got to love.
As for the sculpt, I would say it’s certainly your strongest work yet. You’ve definitely achieved the composition and the anatomy is solid. Only things I can think of that need work are the woman that is looking at us, she looks fine, just not very attractive, so you may consider moving some of her features around slightly. Also, in the concept, the line between the rock and the drapery is clearly delineated, I think you’ve carried too many of the soft curves into the rock, confusing the matter. That could be a valid artistic choice, however, so whatever works for you.
mjolnir: HAHAHA! No worries brother. I do that sometimes too. I did not want to do the image exactly cause that would have been way too frustrating. I see others trying to match their sculpts trying to match the image and its extremely difficult for them to pull off. The rifle is an actual replica of an 1860 Army rifle. So im cool with it. Thanks.
Twitchmonkey: Frazetta is my hero. I cant think of one illustration he has done that I don’t like. Thanks so much. Im super happy with this one as well. Hopefully that one chick looks a bit more attractive now.
So these are the preliminary textures I have put together today. Going to refine them over the next couple of days. Thanks for all your crits and comms. They are extremely helpful.
Like the coloring work so far… So looking forward to its final result! <img src=“http://www.zbrushcentral.com/pixo/atn.gif”>
So here is my final submission for the Frank Frazetta Homage Contest at CGChannel. Thanks for all the help and support. Have an awesome Thanksgiving.

Nicely done!
Definitely has that Frazetta feel.
Thanks a lot! Your sculpts are so clean. Love em. Your DC characters are my favorite. You gonna do a scene with all of them?
