Cutting out masked/selected part of mesh

Hello everyone,

first of all i’m a compleet beginner at zbrush, so please keep it simple :).My objective is to make some kind of dragon and 3D print that dragon. I got into zbrush by following a youtube tutorial series. (using 4R5)

But when trying to make my ‘dragonwing’ i stumbled upon some problems:

  1. is it possible to make the xyz axis visible with named axes at all time? Because sometimes i can see colored axes but it has no axes names.

  2. I’ve spent a lot of time searching for a ‘delete brush’, so some kind of brush that deletes the selected/unmasked part of the mesh. I’ve tried using the clip-brushes, but i think i don’t fully understand what they are doing. I always thought that the clip-brushes ‘cutted’ the selected part out of the mesh and deleted the rest. But when i use them on my wing i get all kinds of weird artifacts. so is there some way to do this?

Thanks in advance,

Ps: if i posted this in the wrong forum, excuse me but i thought this was the most fitting forum.

  1. Geometry can be deleted by hiding it, then using the Tool > Geometry > Modify Topology > Delete Hidden command. It can also be deleted with the ZModeler brush, Polygon > Delete > (target).

The clip brushes flatten geometry, but dont remove it. They just sort of smash it all together along the plane you designate. The Trim brushes actually remove geometry and auto close the resulting hole, but they dont work in every situation.

thanks! i’ll give it a a try

*works like a charm! you’re my hero <3
