As instructed in ZClassroom video “The making of Time for Art” I am trying to cut dynamesh using insert cylinder, pressing ALT but it doesn’t work. Am I missing something?
I’m using mac.
You mean option right?
Works fine here. Make sure your Z is up to date.
There is also another way. Using the Group as Dynamesh Sub also works.
Yep, my Z is up to date, but when I press Option and drag to insert the cylinder I get this kind of result.
if I re-dynamesh nothing happens.
I guess I am missing something…

Send me your project file/and or tool and I will look at it. Let you know what I find. If you have issue with attachment size, let me know and We’ll set up an ftp for you.
Oh…oh…make sure the head subtool is selected when ding this operation and not the zipper subtool.
There’s only one tool (subtool?). It’s all one mesh.
Here is the ZTL

Choosing between Zadd or Zsub seems to have same effect as pressing option key while using InsertCylinder (or InsertCube) in my case. Neither do substract.
It looks like you are using the ‘InsertHCylinder’ brush (half cylinder). Use the ‘InsertCylinder’ brush instead.
Oooookkkkay!!

Oooooookkkkkay!!

Forgive me for asking but, are you ctrl dragging outside the model twice? Once to clear the mask, another to activate dynamesh?
Ahh! Now it works. I had to CTRL-drag two times, not once.
=)
I seam to have the same problem with cutting geometry in Dynamesh 4R4. I have tried all of the above but mesh only adds. The only way it works is through the sub tool menu via splinting the inserted mesh and then clicking on the subtract icon and finally by dragging cuts through the mesh. This is a bit tedious when you know there is a simpler way of doing it but it doesn’t work. Is there any answer to this or is it just a bug in 4R4.
