Customise UI stops Ctrl+Z key from working.

SysSpecs:
Windows XP Pro SP2 (2002)
Pentium4 3GHz
2 GB ram
NVidia GForce4 6800 (latest drivers)
Clean ZBrush 3.1 installation
No old scripts used.

I used the “enable customize” button to build a custom UI. Saved UI/configuration.
Ctrl+Z (undo keyboard shortcut) stops working.

When I restore to “Standard UI”, it works again.

I repeated it a couple of times with the same results.

cheers

stefan

I am unable to duplicate this. Would it be possible for you to share your UI? What settings does it modify?

Hi Aurick,

I attached my .cfg file.

Yesterday I also installed the 3.1 patch on my computer at home and I had the same problem.

I select “customise ui”…then I control click and move the “Tool button” (see jpg) to the quick pallet on the left. Then I click “store configuration” (at this point “Ctrl+Z” still works)…then I restart ZBrush…open one of my tools and “Ctrl+Z” stopped working (it obviously still works by clicking the button, but when hovering over it…you can see “Ctrl+Z” doesnt show anymore).

thanks

I am still completely unable to duplicate this, and your interface that you provided makes no changes to the undo hotkey on my system.

I suspect that at some point you’re Ctrl+clicking on the undo button and overwriting the hotkey. Alternatively, you may have a corrupt ZBrush installation.

Hi Aurick, I had a similar thing happen yesterday, only it was a zsphere tool that intermittently would not allow CTRL + z to work. The shortcut itself was suddenly removed from the undo button and returned later without me restarting or changing hotkeys. The undo button worked fine if pressed.

I will see if I can reproduce the issue.

Hello there.
I’m having the same problem.
Can only press the undo button for the tool.
The CTRL+Z doesnt work.

Out of curiosity, would someone take a minute and try this?

Unzip the attached ZSphere model, zs1.ztl. After a FRESH bootup of ZBrush, load and edit model. See if the Control-Z hotkey for Edit:Tool:Undo is missing?

It is for me. However, if I then load and edit another model, Sphere3d for instance, the Control-Z hotkey assignment returns… and if I reselect zs1.ztl from the tool menu, then the Control-Z hotkey assignment is again available for that, too.

Thanks,
Sven

I tried it, and the Ctrl+Z is working for me.
However, looking at some of the posts here, and given the fact that I could replicate the Ctrl+Z problem on 3 different computers with clean installs, there’s definately something dodgy going on that pixologic should take a closer look at.
Personally I simply avoided the problem by not trying any GUI customization in 3.1.

thanks T,

It’s certainly an odd thing. Going along just fine in 3.1 for a couple months and all of a sudden hotkey problems.

The sudden rash of hotkey reports makes me suspect something in common that we all did that’s changed the environment.

I did have a license problem which had to be restored, but can’t remember if the hotkey problem predated that.

Perhaps a maverick plugin?

Anyway, eventually we’ll have 3.2 and everything will be swell again.

Sven

I don’t have the Ctrl+Z problem - I just don’t make any mistakes.

No problem with the tool you posted Svengali but the undo behaviour you described in post #7 was exactly what I experienced. Damned if I can reproduce it though.

Marcus - Pressing Ctrl+Z makes me more attractive to the opposite sex. So does not taking backups and overwriting files.

I think.

I hope.

Help!

Not related to this thread at all, but TVEyes, your comment to Marcus made me LOL.
Thanks for that. I needed it.

TV,

Well, I confess I’ve been trying out some of the ZSphereGet and ZSphereSet commands lately. Maybe that relates.

After testing the “reappearing” Control-Z commands mentioned above, I discover that pressing Control-Z might undo once, but no more than that, even though the undo button still contains more undos.

I hope someone soon finds a repeatable method for what causes the Control-Z hotkey to vanish. (probably will, right after 3.2 gets released… hee).
